I wanted to update everyone on my next novel, Saving Avery.  The book is coming along very well — better than expected actually.  I am planning on a March or April release as of right now.  I will be asking for beta readers and then sending out ARCs to readers and blogs very soon, so keep an eye out if you are interested.

Saving Avery is now on Goodreads!  Please add it to your ‘want to read’ shelf and show your support:

Also, Author Lane Hart has Saving Avery on her “Five Books I Can’t Wait to Read in 2015” list.  Quote from the post: “From the author of Vampire Next Door, one of my favorite vampire romances, comes this erotic thriller in early 2015. I’m even more excited about this one because it take place in my home state of North Carolina!”

You can find out more about Author Lane Hart on Twitter: @WritingfromHart and on her website.

**UPDATE**  Check out this blog post about the giveaway.

Today I reached 3,000 likes on my Facebook page!!  To celebrate, I am planning on have a huge giveaway with authors and bloggers.

The giveaway will be in the form of a Facebook page event.  Everyone is welcome to join, as it will be open to the public.  If you have never been involved in one of these, allow me to break it down for you.

Basically, an author/blogger will donate something in the form of books, swag, gift cards, etc.  They run their own little mini giveaway on the Facebook event.  What that means is you post in the event with any images you want (book covers, book teasers, banners, etc.), what you are giving away, who is eligible to participate (US only or worldwide) and what the participants have to do in order to win.

The attendees of the event will participate in these little “mini giveaways” and follow the instructions of each giveaway post in order to be eligible to win.  Now, what do they have to do to win?  It could be almost anything.  You make the rules, and you are responsible for your own giveaway.  Your giveaway can be as simple as like, share, comment.  If you want to make them work for it, you can get more Facebook page likes, Amazon author page likes, blog likes/comments/subscribers, etc.

So what’s in it for you for running a giveaway?  It depends on what you ask the participants to do.  You can gain Facebook page likes, new subscribers to your blog or newsletter, comments/likes on your blog, Amazon author page likes and so much more.  It’s a way to gain followers and attention for new releases fast.  These events are great for indie authors especially, because you’re getting your name out there, your book cover images/teasers and so much more to a lot of people who may have never seen your work before.

If you would like to donate books, e-books, gift cards, swag, etc., please go to this Facebook post and vote on which weekend would work out best for you.  Once we settle on a weekend, I will create the giveaway and post about it on my Facebook page.

Note from the author:  Saving Avery is an erotic thriller that takes place on the North Carolina coast.  It has really been an emotional roller coaster for me while I’ve been writing this book.  Avery suffers physical and mental abuse at the hands of her husband, a man she was once completely in love with.  It’s never easy to write a character’s struggles when you have to pour so much of yourself into them.  I felt her pain.  I felt her struggles.  Like I said…emotional roller coaster.

When the idea for this book first came to mind, I pushed it aside.  No way, I thought.  Besides the general subconscious thought I always have when I start a new book (Hey, you have a million other books to write and finish!  What are you doing?!), Avery’s story kept resurfacing.  I’m sure any writer out there can relate when your characters become relentless…and sometimes downright annoying.  They want their story told, and they want it told now.  So I endeavored into yet another book that I just couldn’t break away from.  It was a struggle from the beginning because of the sensitive subject matter, but I pressed on.  Avery needed her story told, and who was I to deny her?

I hope that Avery’s story comes across as genuine and that her struggles and triumphs affect all of my readers just as they have affected me while I was writing about them.

~Angela

Saving Avery will be released soon in early 2015.  Read below for info about ARCs.

I will be requesting a handful of readers/reviewers for ARCs (advanced reader copies) very soon, so keep an eye out for that!  I will post the requests on my Facebook page.

Why I Write (Blog Hop)

I’ve been tagged in a ‘Blog Hop’.

Title: Why I Write

Matt Cairns, a fellow author on Twitter, @mattcairns73, kindly invited me to participate in this blog hop. Matt Cairns published a novel, Cold Blooded, in 2013.  Cold Blooded is an action thriller/horror novel with elements of the supernatural.  Check out Matt Cairns’ novel “Cold Blooded: A Thriller” here.

Okay, so how does a Blog Hop work?

*         Well, it’s like a game of tag, but on Twitter.

*         Once you’re tagged, you need to write a post on your blog about why you write. (Feel free to use the same kind of format as I have in this post.)

*          Make sure you link back to the person who tagged you.

*          Nominate and tag three (or more) people via Twitter to be next in the ‘hop’. (Make sure you contact them so they know.)

So, on with the blog…

Why I Write

Why do I write?  The answer is quite simple:  to escape.

I developed a love for books at a very young age.  I found myself reading whatever I could get my hands on.  Growing up poor and introverted, books were always my friends when I didn’t feel like I had any.

Along with a love for reading came an affinity for writing.  I can remember writing poems and song lyrics when I was a child.  Shortly thereafter, the poetry transitioned into short stories and eventually novels when I was a teen.  The first novel I ever wrote was, of course, about vampires.  Back in the ’90s, vampires were quite prevalent, and I devoured anything vampire related.  So it was only natural that my first novel that I published, Vampire Next Door, would be, in fact, about vampires.

I have always loved the idea that books can transport us to places we’ve never been.  We meet people we could never meet in real life.  We are able to experience a myriad of emotions and relish in triumphs and defeats by just simple words strung together into sentences.  And we can live vicariously through a number of different characters and, in a sense, become them for the length of the book.  I always wanted to create that kind of magic with words, and I am finally living my ultimate dream — being a published author.  With a deep-rooted need to escape of my own, I love creating worlds for other people to escape to as well.

Why do I write?  Because if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have a purpose. I live to write.  It has always been like that for me and always will be.  Even if I never publish another book again, I would still write for myself, as I had been doing for years before publishing my first novel.  I have so many more books, characters and universes that I can’t wait to share with everyone.  And as all writers are very aware of, the voices never stop — the characters are always there, waiting for you to tell their story.

I write for the same reason I breathe – because if I didn’t, I would die.” – Isaac Asimov

TAG! You’re it…

So here’s the point where I nominate other writers for the ‘hop’, so they too can answer the question: Why do I write?  I nominate as follows:

Setta Jay, @SETTAJAY_, author of The Guardians of The Realms Series

Lane Hart, @WritingfromHart, author of Blood Drive

C.E. Black, @CEBlackBooks, author of Shifted Perceptions

Garrard Hayes, @garradhayes, author of Bourbon and Blood

Daniel Kaye, @DanielKaye_, author of dark fiction vampire novel I, Vladimir

Eddie Jose Morales, @morales_ej, short story horror fiction writer

T.W. Barton, @TyWadeBooks, author of the upcoming iVigilante series and book reviewer.  (He supports a LOT of indie authors!)
